Why We Started Oligo
We started Oligo based on the values that have shaped our lives. Jason spent 20 years working in banking and finance, which gave him the foundation to move naturally into the payments space. For Ann, growing up with a big migrant family, entrepreneurship was always part of life. The idea behind Oligo was inspired by her family’s struggles as business owners – particularly with their payment providers and the high fees they were being charged.
Our initial focus was solely on digital wallets and cross-border payments. However, as we explored the market, we realised there was a broader opportunity to offer a range of payment solutions. Our goal is to enable both local and international customers to pay for goods and services in Australia using their preferred digital wallet, offering flexibility and convenience.
So, what is Oligo?
We’re a payment service provider offering both EFTPOS machines and online payment solutions. Anywhere that accepts card and digital payments, our team can help. Our target customers are small to medium-sized businesses, especially those looking for easy-to-use, flexible, and affordable payment solutions. They need a service that’s personal and tailored to their specific needs, and that’s where we come in.
In the long-term, we hope to create a one-stop solution for our customers as we continue to grow. Whether they need online payments but lack the technical expertise to integrate with their software, require a short loan to expand their business, or need an easy way to transfer money overseas to loved ones, all of these services will be accessible within the Oligo ecosystem.
A big part of what makes Oligo stand out in a crowded market is our focus on an underserved segment of the market, particularly small businesses with language barriers. Our diverse team enables us to provide tailored support to these businesses, which has been a key factor in our growing success. In Australia, the major banks hold a monopoly, and payments are often a secondary priority for them. Their focus is on lending and deposits, while payments are frequently overlooked. As a result, customers are left with outdated terminals and high fees unless they actively search for better alternatives. We saw this gap and knew we could do better. So we did.
At Oligo, our team is everything. Building a team that values diversity, collaboration, and customer-centricity has been our top biggest priority. Each team member brings unique strengths and stays aligned through clear communication and a shared vision. To stay competitive, we need to keep thinking outside the box and understanding the evolving needs of our customers. It’s our team that keeps us aligned with our core values and ensures we continue to grow and adapt with the market.
